FOUNDRY

Our dedicated clients know A.G. Anderson Ltd. as a jobbing foundry with expertise in creating unique engineered products with difficult geometries and alloys.  Much of our business is conducted through relationships with existing clients, but if you’re new to us, our goal is to make A.G. Anderson your foundry of choice.  We guarantee that when you receive your unique castings or pieces of equipment that the work is done right.  The 50,000 unique products formed to date is a testimony to our creativity, flexibility, and technical prowess when it comes to producing castings under 10,000 lbs.  A team of top-notch metallurgical and process engineers and technicians along with experienced and motivated production and support personnel work diligently to satisfy customer requirements.

For nearly 60 years A.G. Anderson has created quality wood patterns.  Today the Pattern Division specializes in wood, metal, plastic and Styrofoam patterns.  Our five Coreless Induction melting furnaces pour a variety of steels and irons including Stainless Steel, Heat Resistant Steel, Nickel Alloys, Carbon and Low Alloy Steel, Nihard, Gray Iron and Ductile Iron from virgin materials.  We also produce castings in Niresist, Hi-Chrome, and Bronze.

Our castings range from 20 to 10,000 pounds and our order quantities range from one to 1,000 pieces.  In total each year we pour approximately 4,800 tons of metal.  Three molding centres produce Furan (airset) molds either flaskless or in flasks up to 110 inches square.  For rapid production of small cores we use a Gaylord Isocure core machine.

Our Magmasoft® solidification software allows our metallurgical engineers and technicians to anticipate casting problems before the casting tooling is completed. This results in faster deliveries and improved quality for our customers.

To assure the correct chemistry of every heat (batch of molten metal or alloy) our laboratory utilizes a Baird Spark Spectrometer.  In addition we have full metallographic facilities including polishing and a photo-microscope.  Our SATEC tensile Tester provides mechanical results.

Parts are processed using high frequency air grinders, arc-air gouging torches, and knock-off guns and the parts are cleaned by one of three table-blast wheelabrators or sand-blast units.

Welding is performed using SMAW, TIG or Wire Welders with trained welders using ASME section IX qualified procedures.

Annealing, normalizing and tempering heat treatments are done in either our electric furnace or our car-bottom natural gas fired furnace.  A qualified and approved supplier performs additional heat treatments as required: water-quenched, oil-quenched and atmosphere controlled.

All parts are visually inspected in-process to MSS-SP55 or ASTM A802 standards.  We have in-house facilities for hardness testing, pressure testing – both pneumatic and hydrostatic – liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing – both wet and dry – and ultrasonic testing.  Radiographic testing is available through a qualified facility.  Parts can also be dimensionally verified in-house using our Faro measuring arm.
